Referee Course 2011
One of the things that leads to competitions finishing late is the lack of referees.
One of the major complaints at competitions is the lack of referees or poor refereeing techniques.
The Southwest Region of British Fencing is intending to run a refereeing course (1 day + 1 assessment) (or courses if the need is there).
To encourage as many fencers (and interested parents) to become confident, good referees.
Level 1 and level 2 in epee, foil and/or sabre.
Hopefully the practical course will be on a Saturday or Sunday before the 26 January 2012 ie in time for the SW BYC qualifiers.
- any fencer over 16. It may be possible to run another session for younger fencers at a later date.
- any parent with an interest. The aim of including non-fencing parents is to twofold: increase their understanding of fencing rules and to assist referees. It is possible, but unusual, for a non-fencer to learn to referee foil and sabre. Easier to learn to referee epee at a level 1
- Fill in attached information sheet and return to Jane Browne at wellingtonswords@gmail.com
- Each person will be sent a 'homework pack' so that on arrival at the training day, they will already have a good theoretical knowledge of referring across all 3 weapons.
- Specifics relating to chosen weapon or weapons will be included.
- Practice refereeing beforehand at their local club.
- Attend the training day.
- Attend practical assessment days. (Hopefully the SW QUALIFIERS - 29 Jan, 25 & 26 Feb 2012)
As little as can be organised!
There will be a registration fee of £10 - to ensure registrants turn up! This will be refunded on attendance. Please make cheques out to BFSW
Funding will be provided by BF South West Region, England Fencing and Wellington Swords.
In return for this free training, it is hoped the individual will agree to referee at some local, county and regional competitions over the next 2 years.
